Today and yesterday, I participated in the best piece of activism that I have ever been a part of. We had a mix of pro-life and pro-choice voices and used the blatant lies of the Genocide Awareness Project as a sex education opportunity. We did condom demos, gave out pamphlets on safe sex and abstinence (as well as LGBTQ safe sex and counseling resources) so people could prevent pregnancy, and cleared up some misinformation about abortion. I am so grateful to everyone who helped (too many to tag!), how many people brought us food to thank us, and everyone that let me show them how to put a condom on today. So proud to be a UML student right now.

How does this relate to the GAP? People will be on site at the Candlelight Vigil who have counseling experience with post-abortion emotions and rape crisis counseling. Since many people who have had abortions did so following a sexual assault, we want to make sure people are aware of this event happening on the Donahue Quad.
We just got word that this protest will be on BOTH WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY of this week, and they have permits from 8:30-5.
We will be counter-protesting. Bring signs with anything you can think of, like “[citation needed]”, “I support the right to choose”, or any other ideas you can think of!
We are not against the God and Pizza events that happen on Wednesday nights run by the Catholic Student Union. In the words of CSU’s president, Max:
I would just like to clarify something. I am the president of the Catholic Student Union here at Umass Lowell, we do have a group called GAP on campus which happens every Wednesday. It’s called GAP because it stands for God and Pizza. It’s our bible study and social hour (you’re all welcome to join us at any time). WE ARE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS GROUP COMING TO CAMPUS. While we are against abortion, we do not condone public presentation of graphic images.
I believe I can speak for the rest of the UML Against GAP community in saying that we are totally okay with healthy, pro-life dialogue that does not involve many practices that Bad-GAP uses, including medical inaccuracies, graphic imagery, or any triggering material which may trivialize current and historical genocides. I trust Max and my other CSU friends that you could find that healthy dialogue at God and Pizza.
